If you’ve never thought of frogs as beautiful, the Virginia Living Museum exhibit will change your mind! Explore TOAD-ally cool creatures and get eyeball to eyeball with live frogs from around the world! Virginia Living Museum usually displays only Virginia specific animals – but this exhibit is special. Right here in Newport News, see over 70 live frogs.
Part of the exhibit is the Planetarium’s Noisy Neighbors: A Frog Story showing in the Abbitt Planetarium. Besides the cool movie, the grandkids will be able to see (and hear – you can create a chorus when you push buttons to activate recorded frog calls) frogs from across the globe, hear their croaks, yaps, chirps, whoops, snores and whistles, all housed in detailed habitats with rock ledges, live plants and waterfalls. Your grandchildren will be thrilled with all the interactive games (an especially graphic one is a video game that has you dissect a frog! a real favorite). They’ll learn cool frog names like:
- Mexican Dumpy Frogs
- Waxy Monkey Frogs
- Vietnamese Mossy Frogs
- Fire-bellied Toads
- Poison Dart Frog
There is a Museum Membership just for grandparents that I like to recommend. It is $120 a year but it includes admission for up to 6 guests (each time you visit) and also includes the Planetarium (usually an extra charge). Typical museum admission $17 adults, $13 children
